The Latest PUMA x mita Clyde Collaboration Will Make You Want To Drop Dollar Bills

PUMA partnered again with mita sneakers, one of the top sneaker boutiques in Tokyo that’s become a mecca for collectors worldwide. Shigeyuki Kunii, the creative director of mita sneakers, selected the classic PUMA Clyde silhouette once again as a follow up to the well-received PUMA Clyde mita ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ released in 2007.

The PUMA Clyde has been established as a sneaker icon since the 70’s. Today the shoe shows no signs of slowing down in popularity constantly refreshed with new colourways and textures. The new iteration is covered in a digital print of dollar bills with Walt Frazier’s portrait. The dollar bill print covers the outside part of the sneakers while the Formstrip is decked out in shiny rhinestones symbolizing the flamboyant lifestyle that the legendary basketball player is also known for. Walt Frazier’s champion New York city team colors are applied to the shoe laces and Formstrip on the inside of the sneaker, blue on the right and orange on the left. The asymmetric design reflects the fame and recognition he has gained throughout his carrier. The insoles are also decorated with the dollar print with a chain link fence motif, a distinct trademark by mita sneakers, along with a customized logo. The tongue is marked with co-op branding that features the mita and PUMA logos.

The PUMA Clyde x mita sneakers drop on Friday, 23 December 2016, and will be exclusively available at PUMA SELECT Bree Street, Cape Town and Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

First Look: adidas Consortium x KITH ASPEN Pack

Throughout 2016, adidas has worked closely with Ronnie Fieg to put together the Aspen Pack.

The first model in the KITH Aspen pack is completely new – it is the first ever UltraBOOST Mid. Fieg's execution extends the original lower silhouette with a snug, sock-like enclosure at the ankle. The upper is cageless with a subtle taped panelling, a nod to the original adidas 3-Stripes branding. Rather than the conventional Primeknit, Fieg's new UltraBOOST Mid is constructed using a thicker space dyed yarn suitable for the winter months. It arrives in a festive multicolor pattern with laces to seamlessly match the upper.

The second model is a more conventional outdoor model. The Response Trail BOOST is fundamentally a trail shoe with a reputation for being tough and functional. Here it gets a lifestyle makeover. Still high on tech it comes equipped with a neoprene collar and a speed lacing system. The sole is a hybrid of exposed BOOST™ and hard-wearing, grippier rubber. Outdoor footwear is currently enjoying a big moment in the cities among sneaker enthusiasts looking for a shoe robust enough withstand the cold, while still providing them with the level of comfort they are accustomed to.

The adidas Consortium x KITH ASPEN Pack will drop on Saturday, 31 December 2016.

First Look: The New Clyde ‘Dressed’ Pack by PUMA

PUMA adds another slick number to your sneaker rotation with a new iteration of the Clyde Dressed pack. With the classic sneaker’s comeback after five years, the Clyde has been given a stylish update inspired by the legendary sports icon and sultan of swag, Walt “Clyde” Frazier.

The PUMA Clyde has been established as a sneaker icon since the 70’s. Today the shoe sees no signs of slowing down in popularity constantly refreshed with new colourways and textures. Influencing this latest drop is Walt Frazier’s impeccable sartorial style.

Basketball legend Walt ‘Clyde’ Frazier was the league’s original fashion icon and first player to make the fashion magazines with his distinct classy style. PUMA pays homage to the famous star who brought the PUMA Clyde into the limelight with the second Clyde Dressed pack release. PUMA pulled out all the stops when it came to the attention to detail. The celebratory sneaker is decked in a premium quilted leather upper reminiscent of the flamboyant basketball star’s extravagant leather cases that he brought to the games.  It’s finished off with gold Clyde lettering etched on the lace tips. The Dressed Pack comes in Black and White colour ways.

First Look: adidas Consortium x Highs and Lows EQT Running Support 93

Highs & Lows of Australia reworked the adidas EQT Support 93 and gave it a jaw-dropping upgrade inspired by the ‘Interceptor’, the beefed-up muscle car featured in the Mad Max franchise. This EQT is based on the muscle cars that rose to cinematic and cultural significance during the 1970s and 1980s. An era where cars were gutted, hybridized and pushed to their performance limits.

Using forged neoprene, waxed sailcloth, aged cowhide and nubuck, Highs and Lows toughens the iconic runner that would fit the rugged desert wasteland battlefield where most of the Mad Max franchise takes place. Flecks of sandy gold are speckled on the midsole, while the gradient effect on the three stripes represents the iconic zoomie exhaust pipes seen on the upgraded Ford Falcon XB Coupe.

The adidas Consortium x Highs and Lows EQT Running Support 93 ‘Interceptor’ will drop on Saturday, 17 December 2016.

Not Your Average Skate Sneaker! The PUMA x Diamond Supply Co. ‘Classic Suede’ Drops Soon!

PUMA and Diamond Supply Co. released their first-ever collaboration, the PUMA x Diamond Supply ‘Classic Suede’, which is inspired by 90s skate culture.

The standard PUMA Suede tongue construction is tweaked with elastic straps on the side, while the vamp area features 5 perforated holes. The collar lining is reinforced with a tough mesh material and more padding is introduced to the lining. Finishing off the design is a molded removable sockliner.

The PUMA x Diamond Supply “Classic Suede” pack comes in White, Black and Aruba Blue colourways. The sneaker drops on Saturday, 17 December 2016.

Introducing the Duplex OG and the Duplex Evo by PUMA x DANIEL TING CHONG

PUMA has collaborated with South African designer Daniel Ting Chong to create two new sneaker iterations; a vintage Duplex OG and a modernized version of it, the Duplex Evo. The Cape Town based illustrator and designer has created two distinctly African sneakers, by drawing on traditional indigenous Zulu and Xhosa beliefs.

Chong’s design of the earthy hued Duplex OG (R2 899) was inspired by Unkulunkulu, the Supreme Creator in traditional Zulu culture. The perforated upper consists of a premium nubuck suede completed by a debossed artwork of Unkulunkulu on the tongue.

The heelcap embraces a custom typographic PUMA logo, which has been specifically created for this release. Notably, it is rare for PUMA to release a sneaker without their iconic typographic logo. Reference to Unkulunkulu continues in the design of the unique footbeds, with a chameleon on the left and a lizard on the right.

The second sneaker in the collection is the Duplex Evo (R1 699), with the various hues of green on the sneaker referencing Mamlambo, the Goddess of Rivers in traditional Xhosa culture. Described as a giant snake-like creature, Mamlambo resides in the Mzintlava River.

The Duplex Evo has a lightweight, snake-like mesh upper along the toe box and tongue offset by a premium nubuck suede on the heelcap and edging of the toe box. The custom typographic PUMA logo appears on the heelcap and tongue. The tongue of the sneaker also carries a visual moniker of Mamlambo, while the footbed has custom symbols that serve as a visual spell to resist the urge of being lured into the river.

The PUMA x Daniel Ting Chong Duplex OG and Duplex Evo drops on Saturday, 10 December 2016 at PUMA SELECT in Bree Street, Cape Town and Braamfontein, Johannesburg, Shelflife and Cop Capital.  Exclusive to the first hundred pairs purchased is a custom made pair of Daniel Ting Chong socks, two metal pin badges containing the symbols of Unkulunkulu & Mamlambo, a customized pencil and tote bag.
