Introducing the PUMA NYY And NYK TRINOMIC Pack

Global Sports Brand PUMA have released the latest Trinomic pack, this time they took inspiration from the heart and soul of American team sport culture – the New York Yankees and New York Knicks. PUMA tips its hat to their sporting influence and re-imagines their famous colour ways through archive running silhouettes

The NYY NYK pack divides itself into two ‘teams’ - NYY, the Yankees, and NYK, the New York Knicks. Two iconic teams from different sporting worlds, baseball and basketball, that embody the density and richness of New York’s most watched sports. The Yankees, based in the Bronx are instantly recognisable through their signature colours, navy blue, white and grey. The New York Knicks, from the heart of Manhattan are famous for their blue and orange uniform.

Each team’s colours are channeled through the R698 and Blaze of Glory sneakers. Both styles are equipped with Trinomic technology, one of PUMA’s signature features, employing neoprene and honeycomb cell cushioning for support. Additional technical detailing is created through a mesh vamp and the use of suede and leather overlays creating clever blocking on the Trinomic midsole. It is in these details that the iconic colours of the New York Yankees and Knicks are brought to life. The colour palette and material play is mimicked across both of the classic PUMA silhouettes to create a coherent and impressive pack.

The R698 NYY and the R698 NYK will retail for R1599. The Blaze of Glory NYY and the Blaze of Glory NYK will retail for R1699. The sneakers can be found at PUMA SELECT stores in Cape Town, Bree Street and Braamfontein, Johannesburg, as well as Anatomy and Shelflife from 10 July.

SA Fashion Week: 2015 Scouting Menswear Competition

Andrew Chandler of The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, SAFW AW15
Menswear designers (that have been in the industry for less than seven years) don’t forget to enter SA Fashion Week’s (SAFW) 2015 Scouting Menswear competition.

The competition, which was launched in 2014 when it was won by Andrew Chandler of The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, aims to provide a springboard for emerging talent wishing to enter the burgeoning local menswear fashion market, says SAFW director, Lucilla Booyzen.

Andrew Chandler of The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, SAFW AW15
According to Booyzen, the most recently available figures indicate that the global menswear market generated revenues of $423.2bn in 2013, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.8% between 2009 and 2013.

Quoting Editor-in-Chief of British GQ, Dylan Jones that there is a generation of young men who are more sophisticated than their predecessors and who have no qualms about buying contemporary, directional fashion, Booyzen, says the same is true of South Africa.
Growth experienced by some of the iconic local brands such as Naked Ape, Ephymol, House of Olé, Palse Homme and more recently Roman Handt, Row-G and Narrainsamy that have showcased at SAFW since 2010, indicates that the international trend is equally strong here. It is this new impetus that demands a greater focus on this category, she says.

The SAFW’s Autumn/Winter 2015 showcase last year therefore saw the introduction of the first dedicated menswear day with the collections of thirteen established designers as well as the launch of the inaugural SAFW Menswear Competition featuring seven new labels.
Designers wishing to participate in this year’s competition can register online before 22 July and must submit a ten-page portfolio of their brand as well as eight sketches of their proposed collection to SAFW by 24 July 2015.

Ten semi-finalists will be invited to present their collections to the judging panel on 9 October at SA Fashion Week. Six finalists will then be selected to showcase at SAFW Autumn/Winter from 22 – 25 October 2015 where the winner will be announced.
The winning designer will receive a three-designer show slot for the SAFW Spring/Summer 2016 Collections, representation by The Fashion Agent for a year and a stand at the SAFW 2016 Pop Up Shop in Brooklyn Mall.

As we enter the coldest month of the season, it is now time to wear the latest men’s fashion and tailoring trends. In putting together the outfit, I have continued the season’s key themes and color schemes, which is appropriate for a drink with friends and a stroll around the city.

This week I am wearing:

  • Shirt – Fabiani
  • Luxury joggers  (sweat pants) – Fabiani

PUMA x Boris Becker – Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of his Wimbledon Win

In 1985, Becker became the youngest and first unseeded player ever to win Wimbledon and changed the game forever. PUMA hosted a press day and an intimate dinner with Boris Becker last Thursday in Wimbledon. Guests included editors and bloggers from key lifestyle media outlets and blogs.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Boris Becker's famous Wimbledon win, PUMA have released a series of animated films created by French illustrator, Ruben Gerard. The three films display Gerard’s retro-futurist and sculptural approach that accompany original commentary and sound bites from the match. Have a look at the first animated film below:

The film also highlights the Becker OG shoe that he wore, as well the PUMA Match, a style born on the court but now a lifestyle sneaker that showcases PUMA’s heritage of unmatched on-court glory and off-court style.

With his shoes, his underdog style, and those tube socks, Boris became bigger than the game itself. We can’t for the Becker OG shoe to hit our shores!
