Black Coffee Signs His First South African Residency For Summer 2016 at Shimmy Beach Club

Cape Town’s hottest lifestyle destination, Shimmy Beach Club, has signed a new resident DJ for Friday nights throughout the 2016 summer season. Multi-award winning DJ and Producer, Black Coffee, will be hitting the decks live at Shimmy Beach Club, starting on Friday, 9 December 2016.

Voted as Cape Town’s hottest Club by Zomato, Shimmy Beach Club is headed by Group CEO Nicky van der Walt. This premier party venue balances the style of international party life and the laid-back atmosphere of Cape Town, making it a stylish venue to rival Ibiza’s beach club scenes.

Arguably the most prominent house music producer in Africa, Durban born Nkosinathi Maphumulo
known as Black Coffee, has released five albums under his record label, Soulistic Music. He was awarded a BET award for Best International Act: In Africa this year. In 2007, he became a household name in the SA DJ scene, firing up floors with his tribally infectious, vocal-laced beats. Additionally, he recently won 4 awards at the South African Music Awards (SAMA) including Album of the Year, Best Dance Album, Best Engineered Album and the International Achievement Award. In 2015 he was also awarded “Breakthrough DJ of the Year” in Ibiza and has been nominated again this year in the “Deep House” category for the 2016 DJ Awards.

Black Coffee’s penchant for true Afropolitan house: home-brewed but fresh and future-focused. The global superstar believes that the use of live instruments in a song is very important, as it brings the track to life. His fifth album, “Pieces Of Me” and the debut single “We Dance Again” (featuring vocalist Nakhane Toure) triumphantly hit the number 1 spot on iTunes and the album went on to reach double platinum status within 3 months of release.

Tickets will be available via shimmy.nutickets.co.za soon.
General Access: R175 p/p
VIP: R275 p/p (includes access to a private bar with limited seating)

To book VIP table bookings email tickets@shimmybeachclub.co.za or call 021 200 7778. The closest parking lot to Shimmy Beach Club is The Clock Tower parking, V&A Waterfront, with Shimmy shuttles running frequently between the venue and the parking. It is however recommended that partygoers make use of a reliable taxi service.

Blayze to drop Ladies Night EP in February

South African Hip Hop Awards nominated producer and musician, Blayze, is due to release his Ladies Night EP on Monday, 15 February. The Ladies Night EP is a different sound compared to Blayze’s previous singles, however, still contains the same flair that he is known for.

The title Ladies Night came about purely by chance. The same manner in which nightclubs host Ladies Night events by making women the focus of the evening is exactly what the aim of the EP is. Blayze has collaborated with the likes of Chad Da Don, Kly and Reefi on this particular project, which takes you on a journey of the ups and downs in any romantic relationship. Some moments are good, some moments are bad and some moments are just confusing in any relationship. The Ladies Night EP takes you through all of those emotions that anybody could relate to.

“I've become aware of the fact that I have a good female following but, until recently, I haven’t released any music that women could relate to in any particular way. I decided I wanted to release the Ladies night EP so that my female fans can get to know a different side to me but still remaining authentic for the music I am known for,” says Blayze.

Davido signs worldwide deal with Sony Entertainment

Sony Music Entertainment have signed musician Davido to a groundbreaking global agreement. The deal was inked at Sony Music offices in New York and will see the American-born Nigerian recording artist release his sophomore album later this year.

In Africa, Davido is a bonafide superstar. After relocating to Nigeria from the United States aged 19, Davido set up HKN records alongside his brother and independently released the first song he ever recorded entitled, Back When. The track was an instant success and propelled Davido to national stardom as he followed this with the release of his second single and pan-African smash hit, Dami Duro. This track became one of the biggest airplay records not just on radio in Nigeria, but across the continent, catapulting him to superstar status and making him one of the most sought-after artists to collaborate with, widening his huge fan base and media support.

His debut album, Omo Baba Olowo was released in 2012 to critical acclaim earning him numerous award nominations and accolades, including two MTV Africa Music Awards and the 2014 BET Award for Best African Act. A world tour followed which saw Davido perform to sell-out venues across Africa, Paris, New York and London. Today, Davido enjoys a massive social media following with a combined number of over 6-million followers across all his platforms.

This deal represents a step forward for Sony Music Entertainment as it grows its roots in Africa. Announcing its official presence in Lagos, Nigeria verifies Sony Music Entertainment's decision to pursue new business via the introduction of on-the-ground operating entities in an expanded number of markets in the region. The timing of the decision is based on the convergence of a number of positive indicators in Africa's economy and positive signs in the music industry. Davido is a shining example of this.

Sean Watson, managing director of Sony Music Entertainment Africa says; "Working with incredible talent like Davido heralds a new era for Sony Music Entertainment Africa on the continent. We couldn't be prouder of our partnership with Davido and we are extremely keen to support his vision to succeed at the highest level in our industry."

“We are thrilled to welcome Davido into the Sony Music family.  We are very much looking forward to bringing one of Africa's biggest stars to the world.  We are also excited to partner with Kamal Ajiboye, Davido's manager as well as Efe Ogbeni, who will be executive producing the album on our behalf," adds Adam Granite, president of Northern and Eastern Europe and Africa.

Davido says; "Music is the universal language that unites and betters the world. It's always been my dream to take my music and culture to all corners of the world so I'm blessed to be partnering with Sony Music Entertainment on this next chapter. My number one aim is to make my fans and Africa proud."
