Nike Celebrates the Anniversary of the Nike Air Max in Braamfontein

This month marks the 28th anniversary of the Nike Air Max sneaker since it was introduced in 1987 with the Air Max 1. Debuting nearly 30 years ago, Tinker Hatfield’s pioneering design took inspiration from the inside-out Pomipidou building in Paris, baring the sneaker’s Air-cushioned sole unit for all to see. Designed for runners, the Air Max 1 was created for speed and impact with lightweight and well-cushioned construction. The Air Max 1 is considered by many to be one of the greatest sneakers in history, and continues to be a coveted item in its various special edition colorways, limited issues, and collaborations.

In the lead up to Air Max Day, which is March 26, Nike South Africa have launched 25PSI, so that you can have a closer look at the evolution of the Air Max sneaker. At the pop-up store, you can have a look at the different Air Max models, learn about the history of this iconic sneaker and purchase it ahead of Air Max Day. The pop-up store can be found at the Alexander Theatre in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
