LUMIN’s All-White Spring/Summer 2016 Collection at SA Fashion Week

For Spring/Summer 2016 (SS16) LUMIN brings us a collection that was inspired by ‘everyday chaos’. The design duo behind the brand is Amy Liu and James Barret-Poulsen. The designers wanted to evoke a ‘sense of serene and calm confidence, embodying a women who is sure in her style and comfortable in the streets of New York or the beaches of the Seychelles’. LUMIN presented their SS16 collection on 5 April 2016 at SA Fashion Week, during the Lufthansa 1st Best Collections Showcase. The models looked cool and dashing as they effortlessly walked the runway in LUMIN.

The colour palette for the collection was cool and calm and consisted out of whites and sheers with a print which was designed by the design duo. The fabrics were lightweight and had easy movement and included linens, mesh, chiffons, voiles and twills.

The Lumin SS16 collection is cool and young, with interesting shapes and sillihouetes. It is both comfortable and easy to wear.

Durban Fashion Fair 2015: Amos

Amos is a high-end designer label, which specialises in ready to wear, couture and bridal wear.
For Durban Fashion Fair 2015, the key theme for the Amos collection was contrast. We saw hand knitted beanies being paired with eveningwear and sleeveless coats; sheer gold netting paired with knitted wool jackets. The combination gave the models an edgy look and it enhanced the female silhouette.

For the collection Amos used visible textures ranging from sheer netting and voil to upholstery material. There are two strong colour influences in the collection - darker colours like deep red, gold, black and citrine as well as subtle colours like white, cream and beige to compliment the floral evening looks.

The collection is feminine, wearable and sophisticated.

Durban Fashion Fair 2015: Kat Shoesmith Designs

Kat Shoesmith, is the designer for KSD- Kat Shoesmith Designs. She participated in the DFF Mentorship Programme and is one of ten interns that were chosen to go to Milan for a two-month internship (Congratulations Kat!). Kat showed a ready-to-wear women’s wear collection at this year's Durban Fashion Fair.

Her collection was inspired by a quote from Edgar Allen Poe ‘We loved with a love that was more than love’. The range depicts a dark gothic romanticism and a desire, which she believes is within most women.

For the collection Kat focused on finding texture and tones within the basic black and shades of green fabrics. She has worked with a mixture of light and heavy weight woven materials to combine structured silhouettes with the softness and femininity of softer chiffons. The combination of texture and movement within the fabric gives this range a new level of aesthetic appeal.

Gavin Rajah Couture Collection, MBFWAfrica

Gavin Rajah opened MBFWAfrica in serious style! Guests were whisked off to Illyria House in The City of Tswane (Pretoria) where he showcased his 2014 couture collection. The collection was breathtakingly beautiful. For this collection Rajah drew his inspiration from the roles which veiled women played during the wars as depicted in Arthurian Legends.

There was this incredible attention to detail in all the pieces he showed. We loved the serpentine print skirts and dresses, the jackets and the gowns. This collection set the standard high for MBFWAfrica.

Well done Gavin!

Fabiani’s MBFW 2013 collection: Perfection!

There's always so much to get excited about with any Fabiani collection. The old saying ‘save the best for last’ is true with Fabiani closing MBJFW 2013 with his autumn/winter collection.
I had a front row seat and was incredibly happy and honoured to have attended the Fabiani show. Fabiani has perfected the art of creating a safe, stylish and clean menswear collection. The collection included both casual and formal looks.
The collection encapsulated what the brand stands for which are exceptional quality, unique Italian style, distinctive detailing and bold colours. The collection was loaded with attitude and full of tailored clothing which included suits, chinos, jeans, t-shirts, jerseys, jackets and blazers. The palette pops in blue, green, maroon, brown and black.
The styling of the collection was impeccable. I loved the happy socks/pop socks which the models wore as well the pocket squares!
This was the best collection I have seen this entire fashion week!
