For Spring/Summer 2015 (SS15) Craig Port channels a happy, carefree, holiday spirit with a

Swimwear collection set to become one’s essential vacation companion. The collection was influenced by 1970’s poolside utopia, retro athletics and bohemian hedonism. The styles takes you from sun lounger to sun downer with a clink of a glass.
 

Inspired by his #PortSquad of celebrities, friends and models, Craig designed the collection with the male form in mind, a true ode to summer and the team you definitively want to be a part of this season.
 

Briefs in either square or box cut are made from quick dry performance fabrics in navy, white or ‘Baywatch’ red. Careful attention has been paid to designer details, thoughtful branding and eye-catching trims that give the collection a refined edge.
 

The wax cotton PORT short, available in either mid or shorter length, comes in an array of jewel toned tribal prints that celebrate modern Africa. Tourmaline and tanzanite tones give playful cuts a sophisticated feel that wouldn’t go amiss at Coachella or the beaches of Formentera.
 

Craig Port hosted his eagerly awaited SS15 Swimwear launch, on Saturday 21 November 2015, in association with South African Menswear Week at The Glen Boutique Hotel & Spa in Sea Point, Cape Town. The event saw media darlings, celebrities and VIP guests welcomed with an Aperol Spritz, who then made their way to the terraced pool area to be serenaded by Acoustic Element who set the tone for a sweltering afternoon to celebrate the official opening of the summer swimwear season. Zolani Mahola from Freshly Ground treated guests to a surprise performance.

Introducing the Maaji Greenscape Dawn Summer Collection

Maaji’s new secret garden-inspired collection is full of magical and surreal dreamscapes. The innovative silhouettes and combinations of prints and details are designed to be fashionable, yet functional. The swimwear, beachwear and studio collection includes pieces in bright colours and nude tones complimented by neons and neutrals, with a good dose of exotic floral and mystical animal prints.

For the swimwear collection, Maaji brings us high-waisted bottoms and high-cut legs alongside sports inspired silhouettes as well as structured body con swimsuits, underwire tops, strappy backs and lingerie-inspired elastics.

Maaji’s studio collection includes gorgeous athletic tops, tanks and sports bras, as well as yoga pants and shorts in colourful, eye-catching patterns. These multifunctional and fashion-forward pieces in the collection are designed to fit any active lifestyle and can be worn for swimming, surfing or running.

Prices range from:

Ruald Rheeder x MBFWCT 2014 x Spring Summer 2015 Collection

Ruald Rheeder is one of South Africa’s most successful designers. His show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Cape Town 2014  (MBFWCT) was one of the most anticipated shows for fashion week this year. His collection consisted out of both menswear and women’s wear garments. The collection followed a pastel colour palette with sophisticated floral prints and included printed suits, jumpsuits, gingham shirts, dresses as well as swimwear. Ruald Rheeder: MBFWCT Spring/Summer 2013

Ruald Rheeder is a talented  and well-known South African designer, whose pieces can be found at YDE stores. He is also making a name for himself abroad and will be showcasing at Kenya Fashion Week later this year. Ruald recently showed a striking spring/summer collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Cape Town. His collection included menswear, ladies wear and swimwear.

The colour palette consisted of Monaco Blue with a pop of red and yellow. His collection had a nautical theme with the Breton Stripes and also included African prints.

I liked the prints and the attention to detail on his suits - which are made for the guy who is not afraid to stand out in a crowd. The garments for the ladies will ensure that they look beautiful this spring/summer with modern fresh adaptations of classic nautical pieces.

Ruald also styled a look with gumboots, which he also used in his collection during Mercedes-Benz Johannesburg Fashion Week earlier this year. Are gumboots Ruald’s signature accessory? I sure hope so as they bring an African feel to his collections which tend to look more Eurocentric.

Celebrities which walked on the runway included Top Billing’s Jonathan Boynton-Lee and Expresso’s Ewan Strydom and Leigh-Anne Williams.
