More than 35 designers from across South Africa and 6 designers from other countries in Africa will be participating in Africa’s only focused menswear fashion week. See the show schedule below:

The “non-padding” of the show schedule, according to Ryan Beswick (co-founder of SA Menswear Week), is why the world has taken note of South African Menswear Week designers, especially young talent such as Lukhanyo Mdingi, OATH by Rich Mnisi and Jenevieve Lyons. And they are back to showcase their latest AW16 collections.

Ensuring that SAMW February AW16 collections are truly showcasing the best of South African menswear design, established designers and labels such as Craig Port, CSquared, Paledi Segapo and Fundudzi by Craig Jacobs will be scheduled alongside the emerging talents including Mzukisi Mbane, Augustine, and new talent designers Siviwe James and Neo Serati. Continental designers such as Orange Culture, Tokyo James and Mai Atafo from Nigeria will showcase with designers from Angola, Tanzania, Ghana, Kenya and Zimbabwe.

South African Menswear Week AW16 promises to push technology and show high-end production; from world-class catwalk shows and presentations to talks by renowned trends analyst Nicola Cooper. On The Road – Fabiani Spring/Summer 2015

For Spring/Summer 2015 Fabiani embraces destination style with an Italian narrative that takes you On The Road. Inspired by the Targa Florio, one of the world’s oldest open road automobile races held in the mountains of Sicily near Palermo, the creative direction pays homage to vintage motorsport with a Fabiani twist.

Soft tailoring, clean lines and hues of ocean blue effortlessly blend modern trends with iconic classics. The Fabiani woolstretch suit stars in navy and black while other suiting takes on a lighter form in beige or white for a quintessential European look. A premium stretch denim capsule collection offers a range of slim fit styles in classic 5 pocket designs.

The collection’s colour palette extends beyond timeless beige, white and light grey to include a full spectrum of blues and brighter pastels. Comfort and versatility lead this season but always with an emphasis on premium quality and impeccable design. Blazers and bomber jackets in a combination of cotton and wool are paired with premium compact Giza cotton shirts printed exclusively for the brand at selected mills in Italy. Super fine jersey knit polos and tees add a pop of colour with Italian motorsport badges, motifs and branding for a first place finish.

This season Fabiani launches a sophisticated sneaker in an array of colour combinations. The winning collection in full grain leather compliments both classic tailoring and casual streetwear, falling in line with international footwear trends. A wide collection of formal shoes in calf leather offers a range of styles for the modern man. Finishing the look with one of Fabiani’s key accessory pieces including branded caps, pocket hankies, bracelets, eyewear, knitted ties or socks.

The Fabiani Collection is exclusively available at Fabiani stores. For more information, visit www.fabiani.co.za

SA Fashion Week: 2015 Scouting Menswear Competition

Andrew Chandler of The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, SAFW AW15
Menswear designers (that have been in the industry for less than seven years) don’t forget to enter SA Fashion Week’s (SAFW) 2015 Scouting Menswear competition.

The competition, which was launched in 2014 when it was won by Andrew Chandler of The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, aims to provide a springboard for emerging talent wishing to enter the burgeoning local menswear fashion market, says SAFW director, Lucilla Booyzen.

Andrew Chandler of The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, SAFW AW15
According to Booyzen, the most recently available figures indicate that the global menswear market generated revenues of $423.2bn in 2013, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.8% between 2009 and 2013.

Quoting Editor-in-Chief of British GQ, Dylan Jones that there is a generation of young men who are more sophisticated than their predecessors and who have no qualms about buying contemporary, directional fashion, Booyzen, says the same is true of South Africa.
Growth experienced by some of the iconic local brands such as Naked Ape, Ephymol, House of Olé, Palse Homme and more recently Roman Handt, Row-G and Narrainsamy that have showcased at SAFW since 2010, indicates that the international trend is equally strong here. It is this new impetus that demands a greater focus on this category, she says.

The SAFW’s Autumn/Winter 2015 showcase last year therefore saw the introduction of the first dedicated menswear day with the collections of thirteen established designers as well as the launch of the inaugural SAFW Menswear Competition featuring seven new labels.
Designers wishing to participate in this year’s competition can register online before 22 July and must submit a ten-page portfolio of their brand as well as eight sketches of their proposed collection to SAFW by 24 July 2015.

Ten semi-finalists will be invited to present their collections to the judging panel on 9 October at SA Fashion Week. Six finalists will then be selected to showcase at SAFW Autumn/Winter from 22 – 25 October 2015 where the winner will be announced.
The winning designer will receive a three-designer show slot for the SAFW Spring/Summer 2016 Collections, representation by The Fashion Agent for a year and a stand at the SAFW 2016 Pop Up Shop in Brooklyn Mall.
