Game On! Introducing Radley Spring/Summer 2016

Radley launches the Radley Sporting Society, this Spring/Summer, to celebrate some of Britain’s cherished outdoor sports.

Radley’s polished leather handbags take inspiration from pristine bowling greens, while cues from the badminton court emerge in geometric shapes, nimble stripes and two-tone hues. London’s multi-coloured lido, Tooting, gets a namecheck too, with a palette of saturated pastels, swimming pool blues and nearly neons.

Sportswear references appear at every angle from neat poppers and slick drawstring closures, to streamlined silhouettes and practical pockets. This season’s collection has a confident energised feel with the ability to propel even the self-proclaimed sports-shy into full-on athletics mode. Game On!

Radley is available from Stuttafords in South Africa.

Robyn’s Floral Bomb by Missibaba

Missibaba introduces a blooming bag to celebrate the start of summer!

In anticipation of warmer days and delicious nights, celebrated accessory label Missibaba delights with a blossoming flower explosion. The striking new design entitled Robyn’s Floral Bomb is the latest style to be added to the brand’s luscious product portfolio.

When faced with the daunting task of finding the perfect clutch for Missibaba designer and founder Chloe Townsend’s wedding, studio assistant and designer Robyn Silberbauer started to experiment with the plethora of colour and leather combinations dispersed around the sunny Woodstock studio. While in bed one evening, Robyn had a vision and rushed to work the next morning to create her blooming masterpiece. Pulling out every small piece of leather that she could find, Robyn punched out endless piles of flowers and carefully assembled them onto a leather panel. The result was a colour explosion and voila Robyn’s Floral Bomb was born!

The design can be worn either as a clutch or sling bag and is available in a feast of layered blossoms that showcase delightful summer brights, patent and gold, and midnight blue and liquid black hues. A mixture of fresh textured leathers will be introduced as more colour ways are explored and invented.

Robyn’s Floral Bomb is available at a retail price of R2950.00 at both the Johannesburg and Cape Town Missibaba stores.

Missibaba Brings Us A Colour Block Capsule Collection This Winter

Missibaba designer Chloe Townsend and creative partner Lizel Strydom launched a capsule collection using autumnal inspired leathers sourced on South American travels.

A true celebration of sixties inspired colour, the colour block collection adds a pop of retro glamour to the dreary winter months. The use of on-trend dark navy leather to frame contrasting colours allows them to shine individually with a gold geometric edge.  The introduction of exotic textures including patent, sheepskin, snake and crackled leather give the collection's clean aesthetic an alluring edge.

The collection boasts two new bag styles and a new jewellery piece alongside iconic Missibaba styles. Pieces within the collection are in keeping with the COLOUR BLOCK theme – single colour panes broken into interesting shapes and framed in matte navy.

The San Telmo Hold All is a unisex handheld carrier perfect for day or night. The bag is made of rich walnut leather with handles and trims in Crazy Horse tan - a vegetable tan leather with hardwearing qualities that ages beautifully. The style is also available with the option of different colours and textures in the middle panel.

The Feria Clutch is a true festival of colour with the added benefit of thoughtful practicality. Credit card slots, room for essentials, a back zip pocket for valuables and quick, easy to open fastening make this piece a wardrobe necessity. The bag can be worn as a handheld clutch or over the shoulder as a small sling.

The Daisy Chain is a double-sided neckpiece available in a variety of bold colourways with the reverse in navy vegetable tan. Attached to a long brass chain, the statement piece can be easily adjusted by the wearer to fit their desired length.

Chloe and Lizel worked with photographer Lar Leslie on the dynamic COLOUR BLOCK campaign. Shot on Africa’s Next Top Model runner up Opeyemi, the campaign brings the collection’s retro Autumnal colour palette to life in an eye-catching and slightly offbeat way.

The collection available for purchase from the Bree Street store in Cape Town, and the Birdhaven store in Johannesburg and online at www.missibaba.com.

#FashionFriday – Introducing the Missibaba limited edition artisanal beaded bags collection

On a recent trip to Kenya, Missibaba designer Chloe Townsend, met Abigael Terenoi Sentero and her group of Massi beadwork craftswomen. Astounded by the intricacy of their work and a shared passion for women’s rights and community empowerment a decision was swiftly made to collaborate on an exclusive collection of beaded bags.

Sentero is married with two daughters and lives in the Keekonyokie location in Kajiado County, Kenya. Relying on beadwork to support her family, she meets twice a month to chair a group of likeminded women who discuss issues effecting the community and ways of promoting and selling their beaded products. Chloe came into contact with the beautiful beadwork, traditionally done on leather belts, and felt that the striking patterns would work wonderfully on bags. Sentero and her group are the breadwinners of their families and each contribute on a monthly basis to a combined kitty of funds that go to school fees and to upgrading shelters from Maasai manyatta to the modern mambati houses.

Chloe gave Sentero the colourful leather panels for three different Missibaba bags and the Cha Ching, Macaw Sling and Macaw Clutch were given a uniquely Kenyan makeover. “I am thrilled with the outcome and completely love the slightly skew obviously hand beaded feel,” she enthuses. A true labour of love, each bead has been stitched on individually, evident by the odd stray needle hole, and took the women many weeks to complete. The beaded panels were then delivered to the bustling Missibaba studio in Cape Town to be assembled and finishing touches made.  The final outcome is a small collection of unique and exquisite pieces ready to be worn and loved by a handful of lucky women.

Chloe and business partner Lizel Strydom are attracted to the handmade, artisanal quality of African design and crafts. “The patterns embrace the ethos of beauty in imperfection. No line is straight, no dot or mark the same and the overall effect speaks to the heart! It is very human”, explains Chloe. The pair describes African design as having a freedom that is completely intoxicating and insatiable.

Missibaba beaded collection bag prices range from R2250.00 to R3600.00 and are available for purchase exclusively from the Missibaba shop in Birdhaven, Johannesburg (Shop 3 Wrenrose, 64 St. Andrew St, Birdhaven, Johannesburg).

Happy shopping this weekend!
