First Look: PUMA x MITA CELL VENOM

PUMA and Tokyo-based MITA Sneakers collaborate for the latest edition of the CELL Venom inspired by stealth aircrafts.

The CELL Venom MITA draws influence from PUMA’s archive, the sneaker reflects a hidden legacy of an OG silhouette that effortlessly merges sports and fashion. With a combination of contemporary materials, embroidered details and colour fading, it attempts to hit a new context of a story ready to be discovered.

Originally a training shoe made for high mileage runs, CELL Venom was introduced in a new context to celebrate 20 years of its history and heritage. CELL Venom MITA is built with nubuck and mesh upper in Asphalt representing the body of a stealth aircraft while the Formstrip with reflective piping plays to its reflector shade and the fading effect on the mesh upper signifies its speed. A combination of heritage and modern design aesthetics, the sneaker stands out with a speckled midsole and CELL logo embroidered on the lateral side and heel. The latitude and longitude coordinate on the upper toe denotes the location of MITA sneakers in unique “Electroharmonix” font, which when flipped resembles Japanese text. Featuring PUMA CELL and MITA sneakers logo in the unique Chain Link Fence icon, the design is complete with the official “Tokyo-Kai” logo which denotes “TOKYO CUSTOM MADE".

The CELL Venom MITA, is available exclusively at Shelflife.

The Latest PUMA x mita Clyde Collaboration Will Make You Want To Drop Dollar Bills

PUMA partnered again with mita sneakers, one of the top sneaker boutiques in Tokyo that’s become a mecca for collectors worldwide. Shigeyuki Kunii, the creative director of mita sneakers, selected the classic PUMA Clyde silhouette once again as a follow up to the well-received PUMA Clyde mita ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ released in 2007.

The PUMA Clyde has been established as a sneaker icon since the 70’s. Today the shoe shows no signs of slowing down in popularity constantly refreshed with new colourways and textures. The new iteration is covered in a digital print of dollar bills with Walt Frazier’s portrait. The dollar bill print covers the outside part of the sneakers while the Formstrip is decked out in shiny rhinestones symbolizing the flamboyant lifestyle that the legendary basketball player is also known for. Walt Frazier’s champion New York city team colors are applied to the shoe laces and Formstrip on the inside of the sneaker, blue on the right and orange on the left. The asymmetric design reflects the fame and recognition he has gained throughout his carrier. The insoles are also decorated with the dollar print with a chain link fence motif, a distinct trademark by mita sneakers, along with a customized logo. The tongue is marked with co-op branding that features the mita and PUMA logos.

The PUMA Clyde x mita sneakers drop on Friday, 23 December 2016, and will be exclusively available at PUMA SELECT Bree Street, Cape Town and Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

Introducing the adidas Consortium x mita Seeulater Sneaker

First revealed in the mid-1990s as a hiking shoe, the Seeulater silhouette gets a revamp for the adidas Consortium x mita collaboration. Imagined with a navy blue and tan upper, the mid-top silhouette rides on a heavily treaded sole which features speckled glow-in-the-dark paint details.

The rugged, grippy outer sole, the lacing system and the elasticated ankle all point outdoors; an activity shoe undoubtedly designed to perform in the wild. mita sneakers takes the silhouette, and alongside adidas Consortium, creates a shoe unmistakably inspired by both the natural and more modern aspects of the city of Tokyo.

The adidas Consortium x mita Seeulater collaboration drops tomorrow, 8 October 2016.
