PUMA Classics - Blaze of Glory and Clyde - Get A Majestic Blue Hue Which Is Inspired by a Moroccan Oasis

PUMA takes us to Morocco for a sneaker pack inspired by the grandiose gardens created in the 1920’s by French painter, Jacques Majorelle. Famous for its marble fountains, raised pathways and luxurious vegetation, the garden is composed and coloured like a painting. Many of the features were painted in a rich and vibrant blue with yellow and green hints, creating a perfect harmony with the soil, climate and plants. After years of neglect, the garden was taken over and restored in the 1980’s. It is now one of the most visited sites in Morocco and hosts an archeologic museum, as well as the Islamic Art Museum of Marrakech.

PUMA applies the many vibrant colours of the garden to two classic styles, the Blaze of Glory (R2 299) and Clyde (R2 499). Both shoes feature a plush, nubuck upper in vibrant blue with perforated details that adds texture and provides breathability. The upper is complimented by an all-white midsole. Look a little closer at both styles and you can see that the outsoles as well as the footbeds are detailed with a tiling pattern that symbolizes the traditional Moroccan tiles that adorn the garden.

The PUMA MJRL pack will be available from 12 May 2017 at PUMA SELECT Bree Street, Cape Town and Braamfontein, Johannesburg and X-Trend Stores.

PUMA Releases an Exclusive Collection in Honour of Black History Month

PUMA has unveiled two capsule collections inspired by the David T. Howard School in Atlanta Georgia, in honour of Black History Month in the USA.

Founded as an elementary school in 1923 by a former slave, Atlanta’s David T. Howard School converted into a high school in 1948. In its fifty years it became a gamechanger by setting a new precedent for education, playing a significant role in the civil rights movement and producing prominent alumni including basketball and PUMA legend Walt 'Clyde' Frazier. This year, PUMA celebrates the school and its role in US nation’s history with two capsule collections incorporating footwear and apparel.

The first drop includes two premium iterations of the iconic PUMA Clyde.

The Clyde Bball has a leather textured upper, inspired by an actual basketball design, and the gold eyelets are a nod to Clyde’s basketball trophies.

The Clyde Wool bears the school’s colours of blue and gold and features a mix of wool and chenille to mimic the school jackets.

PUMA continues to work with the David T. Howard School Alumni Association and Atlanta Public Schools to support and fund community growth and engagement in the Atlanta area. Walt “Clyde” Frazier feels proud of the legacy the school has built in the city stating, 'I’m deeply honoured to be an alumnus of the David T. Howard school. The institution fostered the growth of some of our nation’s brightest leaders and I feel this collection captures the essence of that and what the school did for so many.'

Unfortunately the sneakers will not be coming to South Africa. Visit PUMA.com for more information on the sneaker.

Introducing the Iconic PUMA Clyde

PUMA has launched the much-anticipated comeback of the iconic silhouette, the PUMA Clyde. Returning after five years, the PUMA Clyde has been inspired by a milestone in the brand’s rich sporting history and modernized through exciting new colourways and textures. This icon is a staple for any true sneakerhead.

The story of the PUMA Clyde began when basketball’s Walt “Clyde” Frazier asked for a custom-made pair of PUMA Suede’s that were then reconfigured to suit his legendary unique style, making him the first player in history to have a sneaker named after him. His quick hands on defense combined with his cool, calm and collected demeanor paired with his smooth off-court style earned him the nickname "Clyde”.

Originally created in 1973 - in an era when sports stars began to impressively impact on popular culture, influencing everything from film, fashion and even language, the PUMA Clyde quickly became the sports sneaker of the 70s. It’s maintained a strong presence in pop culture in the decades to come, being adopted as sneaker of choice by the hip hop stars, skateboarders, B-boys and musicians leading the punk movement of the 90s. Its many important cultural links ensure it’s a crucial shoe for the sneaker collector of today. Clyde himself describes the shoe as ‘a timeless design’ enabling it to remain a cult sneaker and return to the streets after five years.

This season PUMA welcomes the legacy of Clyde back, a style that remains one of PUMA’s most epic sports-inspired styles that oozes with streetwise swagger and guarantees enduring appeal for generations on. Available in brand new colourways including Bright Gold-Puma Black and Barbados Cherry-Whisper White, the Clyde is finished with a PUMA logo and ‘Clyde’ signature in gold foil imprint.

The PUMA Clyde are available in PUMA Select Bree Street, Cape Town and Braamfontein for R1499.
